Volunteer Day Coming Up!
Join us for our second annual Earth Day Volunteer Day on April 20!
The End of Eden
We figured Cowboy was still nervous about the move. Once he got used to the land, he would feel more secure and calm down. Alas, as time went on, he got more territorial, and continued to charge at us, sometimes drawing blood. Nowhere was safe. He’d come at us from behind, even in the driveway. We learned to pick up a stick or shovel whenever he got near.
Oh Those Holidays…
It was the first time in 20 years Felix was not home for the holidays. I stumbled around in teary perplexity. Where was the noise? Where was the urgency?
Solstice Greetings
As you are probably aware, the Northern Hemisphere is at its darkest moment. But it won’t last. As early as tomorrow we begin to tilt and spin back towards the light.
The Pocket Has Arrived!
In the unusual and pleasurable news department, the designer and textile artist Louisa Thompson has just donated a trove of her gorgeous pockets to Lonely Worm Farm, each one marked by a squiggly worm!
Louisa was inspired by social historians Barbara Burman and Ariane Fennetaux who wrote The Pocket: A Hidden History of Women’s Lives, 1660-1900. Before pockets were sewn into women’s clothes (a development that occurred long after they were sewn into men’s clothes), tie on pockets were very popular. Goats & Chamomile
A short post, dedicated to Baba & Caitlin, who can appear a bit bulky and knobby, but who have a marvelous sense of balance and grace.
Love-In-Idleness
We will be celebrating the coming of summer with a bonfire and a reading of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on June 24. If you would like to read a part, please contact me as soon as possible! Choose 3 characters that you would like to play, and I will do my best to see that you get one of them.
More on Earth Day
So far the weather forecast for Saturday, April 22 is looking good for an afternoon of log hauling, compost shoveling and planting… Taking a meditative stroll in the labyrinth (or running it, if that’s more your style)… Weaving… Enjoying a community potluck and a nice view of the pond. Please let us know if you are planning on coming. And if so, if you will be bringing an extra shovel and/or goodies for the potluck? Thank you!
The event is planned to run from 2-6 pm. Feel free to drop by or stay as long as you’d like.
The raindate is the following Saturday, April 29, at the same time in the afternoon.
Deadnettles & Earth Day
Interested in tasting deadnettle yourself? Visit! Our next volunteer event is coming up soon. Earth Day/Planter Day will be on April 22 from 2-6. Please let me know if you’re coming–and if you can bring a shovel, gardening gloves, food for the potluck, etc.
